Jordi Burch (b.1979)
Date

Description
"Amor Cachorro" (puppy love) is a work about anonymous women who love too much. The photographs on display are part of the book eu que amo tanto — with texts by the Brazilian journalist Marília Gabriela — and portray women attending the MADA-mulheres in Sao Paulo, Brazil (a rehabilitation program for women who aim at recovering the dependence on destructive relationships, learning to relate with themselves and others in a healthy manner).

Jordi Burch was born in Barcelona in 1979 and lives in Lisbon since he was five years old.
He studied photography and History of Art at Ar.Co, in Lisbon (an independent art school, dedicated to the experimentation, training and the promotion of arts, crafts and visual communication).
Burch collaborated with the magazine Grande Reportagem (Portugal) and he is currently a freelance photographer for several Portuguese and international publications, including Público, Expresso, Visão, National Geographic, Courrier International, among others.
His work received several awards; Visão Award (2004 and 2005); nominated for the "master class" by the World Press Photo for three consecutive years (2004-2006).

In 2007 he presented (in group) TXT , at KGaleria, in Lisbon, Lusofonia, in Brussels and (solo) Estamos Juntos! at Casa Fernando Pessoa, in Lisbon. In 2008 he exhibited at Gallery Roseler Nara and Gallery Olid in São Paulo (group exhibition). He also presented his work in Miami, Buenos Aires, Mexico, among other cities.

Text of Ricardo J. Rodrigues on "Amor Cachorro" exhibition (only available in Portuguese):

Amor cachorro
No dia em que desapareceste eu não conseguia dizer. Tu é que sabias quem eu era. Mergulhei fundo. Fiz-me transparente, transpareci-me. Tu tinhas dito para sempre. Quanto? Morrer, quase. Nem conseguir tirar os olhos do salto da agulha. Cachorro. Deixaste-me encruzilhada, sem direcção. Farejei-me ao espelho, era baço. Reflexo opaco, estou mesmo? Ah, chorei de mais. Foi. E aí eu virei fera. Quis holofote, embriagar-me na luz. Foco na cara, palco no corpo, eu ia ser monarca outra vez. Agora eu vou sair do poço, vou conquistar a noite. Ouviste bem? Vou vingar-me. Ouviste? Fala comigo.

Ricardo J. Rodrigues' original manuscript, purchased by Luis Trindade on the exhibition's opening day, for 5 euros.
